Due to the Coronavirus pandemic (covid-19) and travel restrictions, it is with a heavy heart that Carl Stroud, General Manager of the Malvina House Hotel annouced on Tuesday 12th May the temporary reducuction of some of the hotels services until further notice.  The decision was not taken lightly, but believe this is in the best interests for all in light of these unprecedented times.

John D M Robertson Scholarship

The Stanley Services Scholarship was launched in 2008 as part of the company’s 20th anniversary celebrations.  In 2016 the scholarship was named after Mr John D M Robertson, in memory of one of the founder Shareholder and directors of Stanley Services, who sadly passed away on 2nd November 2015.  John Robertson’s expertise, enthusiasm and constant determination to take the long term view was integral to the development of Stanley services in to the successful expansive and diverse company it is today. With this soundness of his trademark attitude to business it seemed appropriate and fitting to rename this scholarship after him.

The annual British celebration of birdwatching.

The British bird watching fair between the 17th and 20th August, held at Rutland Water, England.

Falkland Islands Holidays, along with Falklands Conservation and the Falkland Islands Tourist Board were in attendance promoting the Falkland Islands

Birdfair is held annually and encompasses the whole spectrum of the birdwatching industry whilst at the same time supporting global bird conservation. It is the event of the year if you’re into birds and wildlife. A wide range of fantastic conservation projects have been supported by Birdfair so far.

Birdfair has three main aims, one to be the shop window for products used by birders and wildlife enthusiasts, two a great weekend for the birding community to meet old and make new friends and thirdly to support a global conservation project.

On the 12th July 2016 Gareth Goodwin collected his MBA from the graduation ceremony held at the Middlesex University, Hendon Campus in North West London.

Stanley Services Limited are very pleased to announce that two of their local Staff have been promoted to key and senior positions within the Company.

02 February 2016

With the death of Mr John D M Robertson on 2ndNovember, the county has lost a highly respected member of the community who served these islands and beyond for a substantial part of his life.  Retirement was not a word in his vocabulary and his zest to remain active meant that he never retired and was involved in the family business until the very end.  Over many years he also gave much time to an array of public organisations, and his belief in maintaining good personal relationships guided his deliberations in the institutions he served.

But first and foremost he was a devoted husband to Norette and proud father of Susan, John, Fiona and Sinclair.  He recognised that ultimately the most important thing in life is family, and always maintained that any success he achieved stemmed from Norette's selfless, unflinching support and resilience.

Tom Swales Managing Director of SSL noted that the Company is very excited by this latest planned development, subject to planning approval. The facility will be open to the whole community both residents and non-residents of the Hotel and can also double up as a small lecture theatre. All seating will be of VIP nature and will have a stowaway table and Drinks Holder. It will also have a lift to make it more accessible.

Mr Swales said that the aim of the cinema is to become an integral part of the hotel as well as being used by everyone in the local community. Not only is it planned to show the latest Hollywood Blockbusters and matinees but it will be available for private functions such as children parties, business functions, sporting occasions, arts and drama societies and customers who simply wish to watch an old film but to enjoy it within a cinema experience.

Mr Swales concluded by saying that since Stanley Services bought the Malvina House Hotel in 2004, their aim has to been to continually improve the facilities and levels of service to all customers. He added that in reality it is a never ending journey and believes that this new cinema will make a great contribution not only to the Hotel but to life in Stanley. Continual Investment in the hotel is just part of Stanley Services’ excellent track record of investing in the Islands – since 1987, the Company has invested over £20million pounds.
